The photodocumentary exhibition "100 years in 100 frames", tracing the history of the Stara Zagora Opera, was opened today in the foyer of the building of the cultural institution.
The exposition includes selected photographs from different periods of the opera's development. The best documented are the years from the early 1950s to the early 1980s. The archive for the period after that until 2010 is very sparse due to its destruction in the fire at the opera house in the early 1990s. The organisers have therefore sought the assistance of numerous artists, directors, conductors, choristers and musicians, including Rumen Neykov, Petya Baldzhieva, Evdokia Zdravkova, Nino Lukanov, Ofelia Hristova, Simeon Simeonov, Savina Kulova and others.
"The exhibition is innovative - in addition to photos, visitors can scan special QR codes that take them to recordings of events, voices of prominent figures of the State Opera - Stara Zagora and moments from performances. All this can be seen and heard on our new website," said the director of the institution Vladimir Boshnakov at the opening.
"The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the opera in Stara Zagora - an event that Stara Zagora residents can be proud of. The city is the only one to have raised and preserved in time both a ballet and an opera company," said Lyubomir Kutin, organizing secretary of the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art (FOBI).
Visitors can see footage from the first opera presented in the City of Lime Trees - "Gergana", as well as from the masterpieces "La Traviata", "Tosca", "La Boheme", "Tsar Kaloyan" and others. Also included are previously unseen photographs from the productions of "Janina's Nine Brothers", "Ivaylo", "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and others.
The exhibition is part of the accompanying programme of the 55th edition of the Festival of Opera and Ballet Art, which opens tonight with the premiere of the opera "Andre Chenier" by Umberto Giordano. In the two premiere performances, today and tomorrow, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the performances of Dario di Vietri and Boris Taskov as André Chenier. Kiril Manolov and South Korean baritone Gangsoon Kim will alternate as Carlo Gerard, while Tania Ivanova and Tamara Kalinkina will perform as Madalena.
BTA reminds that earlier today a stamp "100 years of opera in Stara Zagora" with a circulation of 6000 pieces was validated.
