Saturday matinee "The Stars of Stara Zagora Opera", episode one of an exciting series in our anniversary year, starts on 16 May /Saturday/ at 11 am in the foyer of the Opera House. In these Saturday matinees we will present each time one of the famous artists who have connected their lives and hearts with our opera.
It is a great honor for all of us that "Stars of Stara Zagora Opera" begins with the matinee of our famous fellow citizen Stefka Mineva. This will be our most beautiful gift and our most sincere "Thank you and Bow!" to the talent she gave on stage in the City of Linden. A gift because the next day /17 May/ will be Stefka Mineva's birthday!
The host of the exciting matinee will be Krassimir Kashev, conductor at the State Opera-Stara Zagora. The long-standing soloists of our Opera - Alexander Marulev, Milko Mikhailov and Ofelia Hristova and the young hopes Gergana Rusekova and Michaela Berova - mezzo-sopranos as the Prima Stefka Mineva will perform. Expect a lot of unexpected moments - both for the audience and for the artists themselves in the matinee and especially for the main heroine - our beautiful Stefka Mineva.
The opera singer Stefka Mineva /mezzo-soprano/, was born on 17.05.1949 in the town of Stara Zagora in the family of the opera singers Minyo Minev and Yovka Bunardzhieva.From early childhood she attended singing and ballet lessons.She graduated from the Vocal Faculty of the State Conservatory in the class of Prof. Sima Ivanova and Prof. Ilia Yosifov.
In 1976 she received the Second Prize at the International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Sofia, and in 1977 - the Audience Award at the International Opera and Ballet Competition in Ostend, Belgium. In 1981 she triumphed at the singing competition in Rio de Janeiro.
Stefka Mineva's repertoire includes all major mezzo-soprano roles from the operas of Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Bizet, Rossini, Puccini, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as roles in Bulgarian works, including Maria in "Ivaylo" by Marin Goleminov,Sara in "Maria Dissislava" by Parashkev Hadjiev, Zoya in "Tsar Kaloyan" by Pancho Vladigerov, Ines in "Rest in Arco Iris" by Alexander Yosifov, "Khan Krum" by Alexander Yosifov, The Gypsy in "Yanina's Nine Brothers" by Lyubomir Pipkov. Stefka Mineva has toured the world stage, has a number of appearances at the Metropolitan Opera - New York, Milan's La Scala, Arena di Verona and many others.
Stefka Mineva is an Honorary Citizen of Stara Zagora by the Decision of the Municipal Council of 1.10.1999.
