The show is about the eternal themes of love and a woman's contested freedom and her right to choose, recreated in an entertaining and original way by director Ursula Horner. She has moved the action from the 18th century to the first decades of the 20th century, when technological and fashion discoveries were also taking over the Orient. Horner is known to Bulgarian audiences for her performances of Jacques Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann in Rousse and Plovdiv, Il trovatore in Plovdiv and Rossini's The Barber of Seville at the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, which is a guest at the 2018 Stara Zagora Festival of Opera and Ballet.
